There was once a very important and self indulgent potato who had three daughters. One day his eldest daughter said that she had fallen in love with a fellow potato and wished her father's consent to marry him.

As with most things in life there will be winners and losers. For example anyone buying outright at start of 1999 will have seen a currency gain in sterling terms of 38%. (start 2000 +57%).

Hello postmac,Michel Thomas was for many years the acknowledged number one language and pronunciation teacher to the Hollywood stars. The cd's came as an afterthought and became a very popular Christmas present  in LA. I'm certainly not knocking him as his methods can clearly produce outstanding results but to really get to grips with Italian imo there are better courses.www.michelthomas.com/testimonials.htm

Have a look at Rosetta Stone. Maybe the most expensive but for a reason. Michel Thomas.....great if you are appearing alongside Brad.

arty is correct imo. If the IR consider you liable for UK taxation then their rules will apply. I think your problem could be arising because for UK residents by law your agent should withhold 20% on your gross monthly rental income. If you have declared that you are non resident then your management agents can pay you gross but this would then suggest that Italian rules should apply. You do really need a cross border specialist as arty says. Not cheap I'm afraid.

Agree with around €6 per litre for "categoria superiore" extra virgin oil. (meets additional conditions to the 0.8% acidity test; normally single estate, superior taste etc). Usually this will be bottled into 750ml bottles so price is €4.50 for 750ml. Shops, supermarkets etc. in Italy will sell then sell at around €10-€15 a bottle. (A fairly standard mark up in retail). The everyday extra virgin seen for around €4-€6 will almost certainly not be "categoria superiore" but will probably be the same oil that you see in UK supermarkets for £10 plus a bottle.

Sure I ignored transaction costs and I agree that these are substantial. But anyone trying to sell now for whatever reasons and return to the UK would be in a much worse position if euro-sterling was at 2006 levels. Also, UK house prices are something like 20%-25% lower over the past two years whilst in Italy prices falls over the same period are in the region of 8%-10%.
