There was once a very important and self indulgent potato who had three daughters. One day his eldest daughter said that she had fallen in love with a fellow potato and wished her father's consent to marry him.

As with most things in life there will be winners and losers. For example anyone buying outright at start of 1999 will have seen a currency gain in sterling terms of 38%. (start 2000 +57%).

Definitely have your tiles treated, but be aware that that this will have to be redone every couple of years or so and is very expensive if you have them professionally done. Upwards of €15 -€18 per square metre to clean and re-treat. Really be sure that you want to have cotto. Same cost to remove old layers of wax and re-polish.

We are the same here in Sardinia. Most fruit and vegetables seem to be a month behind compared to last year. Apricots in particular have been very poor. Swings and roundabouts really.

I've only just seen your post grisimon, so apologies for the delay.Long Term Car Rental. Quite often garages who sell cars and supply rental cars (local garages really) are prepared to rent a car to you for 25 years or longer. Essentially, the ownership of the car is in their name but you have a contract giving you sole use of the car for its lifetime. You pay the cost of the car upfront (the garage making their money on the car sale) and agree to pay the annual insurance and other sundry costs that the garage has to bear. If you are interested, have conversations with some of your local garages to see if you can strike up a deal.

Masterphoto, Good luck to you and all my best wishes. Taxi from Cagliari will cost you around €60-€70.Torre delle Stelle is a community of about 700 holiday homes. Many owned by residents of Cagliari who visit only at weekends. The beach there is good and the views can be stunning but I'm afraid the facilities in general are pretty limited. For example, there is only the one shop-supermarket and no real bars-restaurants within walking distance. (there is a beach bar etc but not much more). I think having a car there is quite important. If you need any further help please pm me.

I'm not sure its a good idea friends buying a car for you. Sure it can be done and they can insure it, but if you do have an accident whilst driving the insurance implications could become very complicated indeed. It might be better for you to enter into a long lease or rental deal with a garage. The car is owned in the garage's name and is rented out to you on a long term basis, say for 25 years. You pay the purchase price upfront and pay the garage's annual insurance costs. We did this before we gained residency and it worked very well.

I completely agree with you elicat and while your figure of a 20% fall in prices may be unappealing to many you could well be right. I follow the market quite closely and many properties are now cheaper than they were 5 years ago. No region in Italy imo. has escaped.

Could be because of the currency.  Italian market (and the whole euro zone for that matter) has become much less attractive to the UK buyer.  Price falls over the last 18 months still do not compensate for the currency movement.
