Italy's rich music culture has produced no shortage of great musicians. Some of Italy's most talented performers have gone on to produce collaborations with the world's biggest international stars, but the latest album from Amycanbe is the result of a decade of polishing by a single group of musicians from the beaches of Emila-Romagna.

Amycanbe formed in 2002, with their first album Being A Grown-Up Sure Is Complicated scoring a UK release in 2007. Two UK tours followed and the band has produced a 5-track EP, The World is Round. Their latest album, Mountain Whales, offers a unique Italian blend of folk and pop, with beautiful lyrics entirely in English.

It is for good reason that Italian music site RockIt.it named Mountain Whales one of the top 10 albums of 2011.

The modern folk quintet is propelled by the husky sounds of singer Francesca Amati, with the light roughness of her voice adding a soothing melodies of the 11-track album.

The album is available on iTunes, but for a taste of the musical stylings of the group from Emila-Romanga check out the video for Truth Be Told.
