With no shortage of national artistic genius, Italy will soon be hosting a large exhibit of over 200 works by Pablo Picasso.

The exhibition is titled "I wanted to be a painter and became Picasso", based on the infamous quote in which the artist claimed: My mother said to me, 'If you are a soldier, you will become a general. If you are a monk, you will become the Pope.' Instead, I was a painter, and became Picasso.

With works dating from 1901 to 1970, the special exhibit will include paintings, ceramics, drawings, lithographs, etchings and books spanning the Spanish artist’s entire career and repertoire.

The exhibit will be housed in the Fondazione Palazzo Blu in Pisa. The historic building on the Arno river will be an exquisite temporary home for the Picasso showcase, which runs from 14th of October 2011 to 29th of January 2012.
