Italian singer Andrea Bocelli has tied the knot. The much-beloved tenor got married on Friday to his companion of 12 years, Veronica Berti.
The wedding day, March 21, besides coinciding with the first day of spring, also marked the second birthday of their daughter, Virginia, who was at the altar with them.
The small and intimate ceremony was held at the Sanctuary of Montenero, in the hills surrounding Livorno, and was attended by family members and a handful of friends, around 60 in all, including some members of the Church.
The sanctuary is a historical place devoted to prayer and meditation run by the Vallombrosani monks. There was no official announcement regarding the wedding. After the ceremony, the couple celebrated with their family and friends at their house.
Bocelli has described his relationship with Berti as a “meeting of souls.”
The singer is to receive a lifetime achievement honor at the 2014 Billboard Latin Music Awards next month in Miami, where he is also scheduled to perform.
