Termini’s Hidden Surprise

Silvia Donati | Wednesday, December 20, 2017 - 10:05
where to rest in Termini train station

Train travelers passing through Termini station in Rome now have a comfortable place to relax or work in between trains at the ItaliaPass/Leonardo Express VIP Lounge.

Located between track 24, where the Leonardo Express train connecting Termini with Fiumicino’s airport departs from, and track 25, where trains depart for Civitavecchia, the docking port for cruise ships, the ItaliaPass/Leonardo Express Lounge is now open to Trenitalia ticket holders by purchasing a €20 day pass. Travelers with a Leonardo Express ticket can access the lounge for a €6 fee, while ItaliaPass members can enter for free.

The 100-square-meter ItaliaPass/Leonardo Express Lounge features a sitting room area with comfortable armchairs, a meeting room, a Skype room for travelers needing privacy, free Wi-Fi, complimentary snacks and beverages, and a concierge service, offering assistance with train tickets, tours, transfers and car rentals.

“We wanted to add value to international travelers of Trenitalia,” said Mike Fuller, the CEO of Italia Ventures/Italia Pass and ItaliaRail, Trenitalia’s largest overseas partner, during the press presentation for the lounge launch. “We positioned the lounge in a strategic location, to accommodate international travelers and offer them a superior travel experience. It’s wonderful for me to see a vision I had years ago come to life.”

ItaliaPass is a members savings program for travelers to Italy who benefit from discounts on air, hotels, rail, car rentals, activities, dining and shopping; it costs $49 to join.

Leonardo Express is the airport rail service linking the city of Rome with its largest airport, Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport in 32 minutes, with scheduled departures every 15 minutes (depending on the time of the day) from 5.35 am to 10.35 pm at Termini, and from 6.23 am to 11.23 pm at Fiumicino Airport.

How to Get to the ItaliaPass/Leonardo Express Lounge

From the Main Entrance:

Walk approximately 4 minutes along the platform of Track 24 (Leonardo Airport Express train track) towards Track 25. Turn right at the elevator. The ItaliaPass Lounge is to the right of Track 25 by the Via Giolitti entrance.

From the Underground Walkway:

An underground crosswalk is accessible from each track. Take the stairs from the middle of each track, or near the main station entrance, to acces the lower-level crosswalk. Then, take the moving walkway along Track 24 towards Track 25. The end of the moving walkway rises to the platform level towards the end of Track 24. Keep walking; the ItaliaPass Lounge is to the right of Track 25, by the Via Giolitti entrance.

Closest Taxi Drop-off:

Via Giolitti 60 (at Ferrovie Laziali Entrance).
