How did we feel about Michael o'Leary's view about flying through volcanic ash?  Would we be happy to fly with Ryanair as we'd have more chance of arriving at our destination, or more likely to fall out of the sky?

We are thinking of going to Sardinia for a holiday in June and wonder which is the best bit to aim for.  Have heard of Costa Esmerelda, any views on it?

Trip Report: Positano May 2009  After our adventures in Rome and Avellino Province in Campania (see previous trip reports) we moved on for the main part of our holiday, some serious chilling out on the beach.  We left our Agriturismo near Contrado

There doesn't seem to be a Campania section any more on this forum, I did a lot of research for our holiday on it....needless to say we had a great time, though got lost in Avellino every time we went there, it became our least favourite place tha

you have such a treat!  Just had my first visit to Rome in May, mind blowing.  Celebrated the OH's significant birthday in Venice, that is another treat.  Have a great trip.

We rang Lloyds TSB before we set off to let them know we would be in Italy for three weeks and they refused our payment for our Rome hotel bill, OH got on the phone to them and read them the riot act and the payment was approved and we did use it for other things including a huge hotel bill in Positano, but it took twenty minutes to sort out on two phones and was a real hassle after we had rung them from UK before we set out.We use Nationwide card if we can for cash as there are no charges.  we have never tried changing sterling cash as the rate seems so rubbish. Before we set out I researched taking euros and Thomas Cook came out slightly ahead with their cashback offer on amounts over £500, otherwise it was the Post Office.

There is something about wasps being alkali and bees acid, or is it the other way round... if you are allergic to one apparently you are not to the other.I have heard the Brewers Yeast theory before, ie eat lots of Marmite and you won't get stung but haven't put it to the test as when I am in sunny climes Marmite doesnt feature on my menu...Also got a tip a few years back that the British Army was having such a hard time on manouvres in Scotland from the midges that they tried everything and eventually found that Avon skin oil worked the best, I tried it in majorca but can't say it was too sucessful...

We were in Rome in May for a few days and had arranged to pick up a hire car from Avis at Termini and drive south to Campania.  After our few days in Rome we were a tad apprehensive about the drive out of Rome but... that was the plan.Left our hotel and taxid over to Termini, of course there all there is are the desks for car hire.  We were then taken to a garage just off Via Cavour and given our car and off we went..   Just hold your nerve, and it is just driving a car...   there is an Italian thing of man or mouse, we may have been a bit mouselike at a few junctions but it is not rocket science.Coming back was a bit more complicated as OH had packed the map, but at the end of the day no-one actually wants to kill you so my advice is to go for it... maybe go out to the airport if you wish, but it is not that awful. We feel quite proud we did it.. not sure we would offer to do day to day driving around Rome mind you...  hey we did the Amalfi coast SEVERAL times (lost the wing mirrors in Salerno mind you) - go for it! Have a great trip and look for those family places if you have the opportunity, sounds as if you should have a great trip.

We did visit Tuscany in 2006, still have to visit Florence as we left that for a separate trip.  Sardinia appeals too...
