How did we feel about Michael o'Leary's view about flying through volcanic ash?  Would we be happy to fly with Ryanair as we'd have more chance of arriving at our destination, or more likely to fall out of the sky?

We are thinking of going to Sardinia for a holiday in June and wonder which is the best bit to aim for.  Have heard of Costa Esmerelda, any views on it?

Trip Report: Positano May 2009  After our adventures in Rome and Avellino Province in Campania (see previous trip reports) we moved on for the main part of our holiday, some serious chilling out on the beach.  We left our Agriturismo near Contrado

Trip Report Campania May 2009  We drove south from Rome stopping for lunch in Cassino, and drove up to the Abbey but everything was shut for lunch, a spectacular setting and many reminders of the conflict from WW2.We somehow missed our turning and

There doesn't seem to be a Campania section any more on this forum, I did a lot of research for our holiday on it....needless to say we had a great time, though got lost in Avellino every time we went there, it became our least favourite place tha

Years ago I worked with some planners who were doing a consultative document on the '3rd London Airport' and the threat of using Schipol etc as European hub was current then... not sure Stansted really counts as 3rd London Airport?  I think that was the result of those studies.  Everything here seems to be on hold because of upcoming general election and credit crunch, but the railways seem to be taking on the airlines for inter Britain travel... maybe all the regional airports will be less busy?  I suppose our carbon footprints will improve with less flights.  These are uncertain times for airlines and passengers... just have to keep checking the timetables and paying with credit cards....

Was the sushi place the little shack that serves sardines and anchovies in their tins?  We tried when we were there and were a tad underwhelmed... the girl took ages to take our order, then the gully gulper truck came up to pump out the drains so we made a quick exit! There is another place further down the beach which is bigger which sells excellent fish, and another place the other side of the peninsular which is probably the place you should visit by boat, we climbed down the path, very high and long and nearly vertical... they do fabulous barbecued fish and seafood... however we were a bit aware that we had to climb up the path afterwards.  Not recommended unless you are a lot fitter than we were/are.We had a lovely few days staying at the Napoleon Fort hotel, we could use their sister hotel's pool, and there was another hotel on the hill with the most fabulous views over the bay.  Absolutely loved it, why can't we have our Ancona flights back!!

Know the site, friends stayed there years ago.....  took about an hour and a bit as we flew Marseilles to Manchester!  We have driven it in the past, kids from school in the afternoon, down to the Channel by evening, across and setting out late... on the beach by late morning, that is driving non stop through the night, probably about 12 hours?  We now fly...   have tried the train that you strap the car onto, hideously expensive and a lot of messing about at Calais.  My brother now has a house in Le Garde Freinet and we are pondering on driving or flying... if we drive (and I'm going) there will be a couple of night stops...

With the journey.  We had a couple of weeks in Prairie de la Mer at Port Grimaud last year, is your van from there? There seem to be quite a few of us from the northwest on this forum.. having suffered from the north south divide weatherwise in UK this summer there will probably be more before the year is out!

We have found them excellent for stopovers in various places, always close to main roads with big  car parks and good spacious rooms... under 16s stay for free if sharing parents room and they are good sized rooms and a very good buffet breakfast included in the rate.Their smaller hotels, Ibis, are also good, very reliably clean and comfortable (not much in the way of free shampoo etc, remember to have your own handy), bit cheaper but smaller rooms so not so good for families. Not the most exciting 'of the area' type places, but when travelling somewhere clean comfortable and easy to find can be more important...

Andrew, I will pass that information on.  This is the holiday I won in the Aquila Raffle, she and boyfriend are going.  The town (or is it a village?) also has a Barbie museum apparently, seems rather bizarre... think the Ripa wine will be of more interest somehow!

I bought a carry on case to Ryanair's specifications, and thought no-one would be stinger than Mr O'Leary so didn't even check measurements in May... had to pay £15 to have it put into the hold.... as I say to my kids, always check the small print...

We are just about equi distant between Liverpool and Manchester, and tried jet2.com in May flying Manchester to Rome, went very well, in fact we paid the extra to have numbered seats, quite novel after some years of cheap flights not to have the scrum to sit together..  Can just about cope with Ryanair for a weekend trip, too much hassle if you are taking baggage...
