Tolmezzo (Friuli Venezia Giulia)

Tolmezzo is a town in the province of Udine, part of the autonomus Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of north-eastern Italy. Tolmezzo is located at the foot of the Strabut Mountain, between the Tagliamento River and the Bût stream. Nearby is the Mount Amariana. The city was surrounded by high walls, eighteen towers and three gates, one of which, the Porta di Sotto, can still be seen. The Porta di Sotto represents one of the remains of the ancient city walls: it seems that this is where duty on goods in transit was paid. Other landmarks are: the cathedral and the Palazzo Campeis.
